POWERBOATING
Our powerboat training falls into three disciplines; open powerboats (up to 10m), motor cruisers (over 10m) and personal watercraft (Jet Skis). We run the full range of RYA courses in each discipline. We also offer a range of BWS Ski Boat Driver and BSAC dive boat operator courses.

FAST TRACK COURSES

RYA Sea Survival
Overview:
Essential sea survival skills: if the worst ever happened and you had to abandon your yacht or boat, would you know what to do?
Aims:
Our RYA Sea Survival training course assumes the worst case scenario: that you have to abandon your ship or yacht. Sea Survival Training is aimed at leisure yachtsmen and powerboaters as well as paid crew on vessels up to 3000GT. The RYA / MCA Sea Survival course is very popular among leisure and professional sailors and powerboaters and can be used as day 1 of the ISAF Offshore safety Crew Course for offshore yacht racers.
Course Duration:
1 Day - 0930 to 1700 hrs.
Pre Requisites:
There are no pre-requisites for this course, although a familiarity with either sailing or powerboating is preferable.
Course Content:
Every yachtsman (power or sail) should attend this one day course. The emphasis is on using life-rafts and the day includes a two hour practical session in the pool learning how to inflate, climb into, upright and survive in a life-raft. We also cover a wide range of other survival issues, including helicopter rescue, immersion in cold water, and life jackets, as well as holding an outdoor practical session which gives you the oppurtunity to fire off a real distress flare.
We hope you never need to use the skills gained on this course, but strongly believe that if the worst ever happened and yours and your crew's lives depended on it, this training will prove invaluable and will help to preserve life.
This course is one of the requirements for anyone who would like to commercially endorse their RYA/MCA Yachtmaster or Advanced Powerboat Certificates of Competence. The Sea Survival Course also makes up half of the ISAF Offshore Race Crew Course .

Why choose Stormforce Coaching for this course?:
This is one of the most fun and enjoyable courses we teach and we work hard to make it as memorable as possible.
We want things to be as realistic as possible and don’t go for the boiler suit, tracksuit, or swimming costume approach that many of our competitors adopt. We strongly believe that you should experience what it is like climbing into a life raft wearing proper kit. During the classroom session you will have the opportunity to handle all of the items commonly found in a life raft as well as many other bits of equipment that are less common.
- Every student (over 18 years) will have the opportunity to fire a real hand-held distress flare.
- For the pool session we encourage everyone to wear foul weather gear or a dry suit.
- For the pool session we issue everyone with a modern manual inflation horseshoe style lifejacket.
- Our variety of Sea Survival dates are unrivalled by other training centres, as we offer this course several times a month on both weekdays and weekends year round.
- In addition to our regular Southampton courses we are prepared to travel to you, if more convenient.
