RYA Dinghy Senior Instructor
Aims:
For those experienced RYA Dinghy Instructors who will be managing larger fleets or several courses at once, this course provides you with the minimum qualification required by a Chief Instructor.
Professional Dinghy Instructors should aim to attain at least this qualification if they wish to progress within the industry; larger centres will have several Senior Instructors. Smaller centres and Clubs need at least one RYA Senior Instructor in order to maintain their RYA recognition.
Course Duration:
Four Days - 09.30 to 18.00hrs with some evening study and pre-course preparation.
Pre Requisites:
- RYA Dinghy Instructor
- In date First Aid certificate
- RYA Safetyboat certificate
- Recommendation from an RYA Principal
- Minimum age 18 years
- Two seasons or one year full time instructing experience

Course Content:
Time is spent both ashore and afloat in double and single handers. The course will address fleet management, instructor management, improved coaching, improved de-briefing and safety. The course has the following format:
- A number of short on-water tasks/sessions all planned, led and debriefed by the candidates
- Shore based teaching sessions
- Candidate delivered presentations
- Candidate led workshops/discussions
- Training tasks led by specialist coaches
- Continuous assessment with regular feedback after each session
- Sessions will be allocated to candidates on any part of the syllabus, encouraging fresh input to candidates' skills
