Complete Yachtmaster Offshore Fast-Track

Overview:

This course is for the sailor who wants to excel at what they do. If you are serious about getting into sailing professionally, then this is the course for you. The entire programme requires fourteen weeks of training in total, although most students choose to take a week or two off part way through, as we are training six days a week.

The first module (Foundation module) provides a thorough introduction to both sailing and skippering for leisure sailors and those taking the first steps on the professional ladder. Practical sailing, navigation and safety training all complement each other and help to develop your skills as a sailor. Unlike other fast track courses, at Stormforce Coaching, we use keelboat sailing as a tool to coach specific skills without all the distractions that come with sailing a larger yacht. This means we can focus on very precise sailing skills and give you far more time at the helm and with the sail controls.

Over the module (Level 2), navigation techniques are developed and coastal and "Cross Channel" passage making skills become a key focus. Parallel to the passage making and skippering, you will develop your boat handling skills. Again, we make the use of keelboats for a few days to focus on specific sailing skills. At the end of this module, students who are not continuing to Module 3 will take the RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Coastal Exam. However, students who have booked the Complete Yachtmaster Offshore package need not take this exam as they will be taking the higher level MCA/RYA Yachtmaster Offshore a few weeks later.

The final step is for us to develop your offshore and skippering techniques, preparing you both for the Yachtmaster Offshore Exam and the world of professional sailing. There will be plenty of opportunities to skipper the yachts offshore at this stage of the training. Successful candidates will complete the course qualified to RYA / MCA Yachtmaster Offshore with Commercial Endorsement and certified to skipper sailing yachts up to 200 tonnes, up to 150 miles from a safe haven and with up to 12 passengers onboard.

Course Duration:

The course content takes 14 weeks to deliver, when training for 6 days a week. Many students opt to take a couple of weeks off during the training, extending the course duration to sixteen weeks.

Pre Requisites:

As this is a high level training course, there are certain pre-requisites. Please note that:

• Students of the Yachtmaster Fast Track Course must be a minimum of 18 years old
• You will need to obtain a ML5 or ENG1 Medical Certificate (please be aware that the ML5 will restrict you to working up to 60NM offshore)
• You should have 125 Sailing Miles logged prior to starting the programme
• You should also have at least 5 days keelboat or yachting experience
• Students will need RYA membership (join here)

Course Content:

The Complete Fast Track to Yachtmaster course includes 14 weeks of training and is designed to deliver a range of RYA and other qualifications. Students should expect to complete the course with 2,600 miles to their names and a variety of certificates. The course is made up from 3 modules:

Sail Skipper Inshore Foundation Module

Sail Skipper Coastal Level 2 Module

Sail Skipper Offshore Level 3 Module

What's Not Included:

• Wet Weather Gear - you may wish to bring your own or hire ours (£70 for the entire course)
• RYA SRC Licence Fee (£30 payable to the RYA)
• Berthing fees (to be paid when away from the home port and divided equally among the crew)
• Meals & accommodation for the keelboat and shorebased courses
• Yachtmaster Exam Fee (£194)
• RYA/MCA Commercial Endorsement Fee (£30)
