Youth Sailing Week

Aims:

This is a fantastic opportunity to work through the RYA Youth scheme while building self-confidence and relationships with other young sailors in a fun, safe and friendly environment.  Trained instructors will help everyone to achieve as much as they can during the course whether it be getting confident with steering or trying their hand at racing.

Course Duration:

4 Days, 0930 till 1630 during half term or summer holidays.

Pre Requisites:

For beginners starting with the RYA Stage 1 and then Stage 2 courses, no experience is necessary. To progress onto higher levels (Stage 3 / 4) sailors would usually have completed the stage before.

• Minimum age is 7 years old for Stage 1 & 2
• Minimum age is 8 years old for Stage 3 or 4
• Maximum age is 15 years old

(we group sailors of similar ages together).

Course Content:

Every course will have a short briefing followed by fun learning afloat. The course content will vary depending on the ability of individuals in the group, for beginners an introduction to parts of the boat, responsibilities of being a crew, wind awareness and steering. The more advanced members will be moving on to sailing around a triangular course, recovering man overboard, returning to a mooring or breach along with some sailing background knowledge of meteorology, tides and IALA bouyage.
