RYA Powerboat Level 2 / ICC

Overview:

Whether you are new to powerboating or have a bit more experience and are looking for certification, the Powerboat Level 2 could well be the course for you. The Level 2 offers a general introduction to powerboating and teaches core boat handling and safety skills.

Whilst there is no exam, the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course is also known as the National Powerboat Certificate and is generally considered "the licence" for powerboats; it is often deemed the equivalent to a driving licence. The qualification is widely recognised throughout the world.

Powerboat training with Stormforce Coaching isn't all about the certification, though. Yes, our two day Level 2 course will equip students with the necessary safety skills and help to build confidence, but it is also about having fun. Course Duration:

The Powerboat Level 2 course takes two days (0930 to 1700 hrs) to complete. As one of our most popular training courses, it runs every weekend and frequently during the week. Please contact us if you would like to book the course on a specific date as we are happy to set up courses to accommodate individual needs. 

Pre Requisites:

• This course is suitable for beginners and for those drivers with some experience who are looking for formal training.
• Minimum age of 12 years applies; certificates for under 16s will be endorsed "Not to be in charge of a powerboat unless under the supervision of a responsible adult".

Course Content:

The RYA Level Two syllabus includes picking up a mooring, turning in a confined space, anchoring, coming alongside pontoons, man overboard procedures, high speed manoeuvring, towing, basic passage planning, chart work and safety kit. The Powerboat Level Two will fully prepare you for driving a powerboat unsupervised with confidence. 

If you require a powerboat licence for driving in other European countries, we can take care of the paperwork for your ICC (International Certificate of Competence), which is subject to a small RYA administration fee for non-RYA members.

Optional Extras:

If you are a more experienced powerboater hoping to gain your National Powerboat Certificate and don't wish to undertake the introductory elements of the Level 2 course, you can instead attend a shorter 1:1 course (1 : 1 fast track day) which consists of some coaching and a direct assessment. We also have two RYA Powerboat Trainers, Doug and Adie, amongst our full time staff (this is the highest powerboat appointment within the RYA schemes). As a result, our Instructors are kept on their toes, delivering a consistently high standard and course content will always be fresh and up to date. We count ourselves lucky to have such a luxury; very few Training Centres have even one RYA Trainer, far less have two and we hope you can benefit from this as much we do.
