MCA STCW '95 Elementary First Aid
This First Aid course is designed for those professional yachtsmen, super yacht crew and seafarers who are required to comply with the STCW '95 code of practice. The next stage of training after this Elementary First Aid course is the more advanced 3-day MCA / STCW '95 Medical First Aid course, which is aimed at sailors and motor boaters who are venturing offshore. Whereas the 1-day Elementary course qualifies you to travel up to 60 NM from a safe haven, the Medical course prepares you for operating up to 150 NM from a safe haven. Essentially, if you were at sea and a member of your crew became seriously ill, somebody on board should have sufficient skills to peform adequate first aid until professional help can be reached.
This is a one day course, which is run from our Southampton training centre. Courses generally run from 0930 until 1700.
- Minimum age 16
First Aid and resuscitation techniques for yachtsmen, including knowledge of the treatment for hypothermia and casualty handling. The STCW Elementary First Aid Course is aimed at seafarers and takes a realistic look at the levels of First Aid that can be performed in a yacht, powerboat or dinghy, offering a practical guide to First Aid at sea. Our instructors fully appreciate the difference between conventional First Aid and First Aid at sea (where an ambulance may not be just ten minutes away).
