Overview:
The Super Yacht Industry is a very competitive game to get into. Thousands of “wannabe” crew are attracted by the sunshine, high salaries and travel of this glamorous industry. If a career in the super yacht industry appeals to you, there is no question that you need to have the basic training in safety, seamanship and boat handling on your CV before anyone will even consider you. Some of this training is legally required to work at sea; some is expected by the industry. Following four weeks of training with us and two months sea time (onboard a yacht of 15m or more) you will qualify for your MCA Yacht Rating. You will then be far more employable than the majority of others new to the industry and competing for the best Superyacht crew positions.
Aims:
This package alone would be suitable for gaining work as crew upon a Superyacht. However, if you should wish to progress further within the industry, you might use this as the foundation module to precede any of the Level 2, 3 or 4 Fast-Track modules we offer.
Course Duration:
Our MCA Yacht Rating Fast Track Programme is based in Southampton and takes four weeks to complete. The training consists of thirteen days afloat and ten days of shorebased learning.
Pre Requisites:
The Fast Track Super Yacht foundation training programme is suitable for over 18s looking to pursue a career in the Super Yacht industry. Candidates will need to obtain an ENG1 Medical (from an MCA Doctor) before joining the course.
The MCA "Yacht Rating" Certificate will be issued once you have completed all of your training with us and two months sea service aboard a yacht (over 15m), proven by testimonials or logged in a seaman's discharge book.
Course Content:
The Fast Track Super Yacht Rating programme is a comprehensive package which covers various different relevant fields. These include:
Powerboating
All superyachts carry one or more tenders on board. These are generally small powerboats ranging from 4-12m. Crew are expected to drive guests, make shore runs, provide safety cover and tow water-skiers and inflatables with these craft. The 2 day RYA Powerboat Level Two Course is taught on the programme and both trains and licences you as a driver.
PWC (Personal Water Craft)
Many superyachts carry a small fleet of Jet Skis on board. More and more countries now expect drivers to be certified to drive these craft. Included in your course is a day of Jet Ski training and the licence.
Seamanship & Navigation
Training both ashore and afloat will introduce you to many of the skills required by efficient deck hands, including rope work, sail handling, assisting a navigational watch, basic maintenance, assisting with mooring and anchoring. The training we provide is generic so will allow you step into many a role onboard a motor or sailing yacht.

The basic STCW ’95 Courses are compulsory qualifications to hold when working onboard all super yachts. These four courses are sometimes known as STCW Basic Safety Week.
