RYA Advanced Dinghy Modules

RYA Advanced Dinghy Modules

INTRODUCTION: There are five “Advanced Dinghy Modules”, namely:

 

·     RYA Seamanship

·     RYA Day Sailing

·     RYA Sailing With Spinnakers

·     RYA Start Racing

·     RYA Performance Sailing

 

Course descriptions for all five courses are below

 

 

SEAMANSHIP

 

AIM: Learn how to handle a boat in all circumstances and solve problems afloat. This will teach you to sail in a seamanlike manner and make seamanship decisions in moderate conditions.

 

DURATION: Two Days 0900 to 1700 or four evenings 1800 to 2115 (to book evening classes online return to the Dinghy Sailing menu on the left).

 

PRE REQUISITES:

·   RYA Dinghy Improver standard or

·   RYA Competent Crew

 

COURSE CONTENT: Heaving to, reefing afloat, being towed, sailing backwards, sailing rudderless, meteorology use of tide tables and IRPCS.

 

DAY SAILING

 

AIM: To learn passage planning skills, practice decision making for small boat cruising and to give you a confident, safe approach to planning and executing a short cruise in a dinghy.

 

DURATION: Two Days 0900 to 1700 (we do not run this course over evening classes).

 

PRE REQUISITES:

 

·     RYA Dinghy Level 2 or equivalent standard (essential)

·     RYA Dinghy Improver (desirable)

COURSE CONTENT: Preparation for coastal cruising, passage planning, navigation, interpretation of synoptic charts. This course will include a day sail away from the centre.

 

 

SAILING WITH SPINNAKERS

 

 

SpinnakersAIM: To introduce sailors to modern three sailed boats. Covering all areas of spinnaker use.

 

DURATION:  Two Days 0900 to 1700 or four evenings 1800 to 2115 (to book evening classes on line return to the Dinghy Sailing menu on the left).  

 

PRE REQUISITES:

                   RYA Dinghy Improver

 

COURSE CONTENT: Rigging, spinnaker hoist, set, trim, gybe and drop. Apparent wind speed and rig set up.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

START RACING

 

 

AIM:  All you need to know to get round the course and have the confidence, skills and knowledge to take part in club racing in good conditions. The start line for enjoying club racing.

 

DURATION: Two Days 0900 to 1700 or four evenings 1800 to 2115 (to book evening classes on line return to the Dinghy Sailing menu on the left).

 

PRE REQUISITES:  

RYA Dinghy Improver or a weeks experience dingy sailing.

 

COURSE CONTENT: Boat preparation, boat handling, mark rounding, start lines, the course, race strategy, tactics and racing rules.

 

 

PERFORMANCE SAILING

 

 

AIM: Improve your boat handling and confidence in performance boats, sailing the boat to best advantage at all times. This course is intended primarily for modern spinnaker boats.

 

DURATION: Two Days 0900 to 1700 or four evenings 1800 to 2115 (to book evening classes on line return to the Dinghy Sailing menu on the left).

 

PRE REQUISITES:

·         A seasons sailing experience since RYA Keelboat, Dinghy or Multi Hull Level 2.

 

COURSE CONTENT: Improved rigging, best efficiency on all point of sail, wind shifts and wind variation.
