  • 13 March 2011- Race 9 & 10

The Royal Southampton Yacht Club (RSYC) Frostbite Series is the start of the sailing season and a great way to tune up for the summer. There are two races each Sunday morning (fortnightly) with training on the first weekend to ensure we all know what we are doing on board.

The Boat

"Vader" is a 1720, a high performance sportsboat that sails with six crew. Her huge asymmetric spinnaker, retractable pole and sleek hull help her fly downwind. This boat has achieved over twenty knots repeatedly. She has a full suit of race sails and is race tuned. This is the same boat we sailed to victory in the 2010 series.

What is Included

  • Training day
  • 5 Further race days (with two races a day)
  • Skipper and performance racing sportsboat
  • Race Entry Fees

The Series

During the series we will sail ten races (two a day). The best seven results count towards our final result. Racing takes place on a Sunday morning and we will usually be back ashore for about 1330-1400. There is prize giving at the RSYC Clubhouse after racing each week and "Sunday Roast/Carvery" is available (not included). Prizes are awareed to the first boat in ecah class each week.

Pre Requisites

We have found from experience that crew who book racing series are of mixed ability. This works very well as we do not want a boat full of "old hands", nor do we want a boat full of novices. We do however set a minimum experience of basic sailing ability (Keelboat Level 2 or equivalent). The RYA Start Keelboat Racing Course would also be useful.
