RYA Motor Cruising Instructor

AIM: To train and qualify Yachtmasters to deliver the RYA Helmsman's and RYA Dayskipper Motor Courses at RYA training centres.

DURATION: Two Days 0930 to 1700.

PRE REQUISITES:

·     Maximum age 64

·     Have logged a minimum of 3500 miles

·     Medical fitness examination (ML5, ENG1 or medical issued by a National Maritime Authority)

·     Working knowledge of radar and diesel engines

·     Experience of boat handling modern twin engined leisure craft

·     Hold a commercial RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence (Motor)

·     In date First Aid Certificate

·     RYA Sea Survival Certificate

COURSE CONTENT: Much of the Course is spent on teaching you how to teach and debrief other students. The trainer will show you some of the tricks of the trade. Those who have experience of instructing in other disciplines will find that some of that experience is relevant, however a good power cruising instructor is without exception a good skipper first. During your course you will role play the part of the instructor so you must have a good understanding of your subject and be confident you can demonstrate all the boat handling skills in the Dayskipper Course well.
