RYA Dayskipper Shorebased
AIM: To provide you with sufficient knowledge to navigate around familiar tidal and non tidal waters by day. The course is aimed at those who will later be attending a Day Skipper Practical (Power or Sail) or Advanced Powerboat course and is totally classroom based.
DURATION: We run this course in various formats, so you can choose the one that suits you
· Five consecutive days from 1000 to 1700
· Five days spread over weekends (1000 to 1700)
· Night School once a week for fourteen evenings (1800 to 2100)
· Distance learning (approx 50 hrs home study)
· As part of the nine day (consecutive) Dayskipper Intensive Combined Shorebased and Practical Course (1000 Saturday to 1600 the following Sunday)
PRE REQUISITES: None, although a couple of days experience crewing aboard a sailing or motor yacht is helpful.
COURSE CONTENT:
· Basic seamanship
· An introduction to navigation and meteorology.
· A basic knowledge of lights
· Weather
· IRPCS
Each student is provided with a pack containing practice charts and navigation tables. You are also provided with a chart plotter CD ROM for your computer. Students will have the opportunity to use the real kit, our classroom is kitted out with live Garmin GPS chart plotters and we integrate traditional (paper chart) navigation with the more modern electronic navigation throughout the course.
